I decided to compose this short exercise in A Minor, and experimented with the melodic form of the scale. I chose to use the standard progression of i - V - i, with all chords in root position. I pitched the chords in such a way that my melodies could make a gentle ascent to the middle chord, then a descent to the final chord, with dynamics that matched accordingly.
